Should Christians Avoid Tax?

It was Benjamin Franklin who uttered the now famous saying:
'In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes'

However as this weeks headlines have revealed, even taxes can be dodged if you employ a good accountant and are prepared to do some creative thinking!

Comedian Jimmy Carr's willingness to exploit a tax loophole has opened a whole can of worms. After being branded as 'morally wrong' by the Prime Minister earlier this week, he wrote in a twitter post yesterday morning: ‘I now realise I’ve made a terrible error of judgement’. He has now apparently put his house in order.

What should a Christian's response be to taxes and tax-avoidance?

Neil Powell of City Church in Birmingham posted a great short article on his blog yesterday about whether a Christian should avoid paying tax. Interestingly, his conclusion is that the answer not as simple  as we might at first think: that the answer is both 'yes' and 'no'.

See what you think...
