Conference Tweets

Paul, Anthony and I are attending the annual Evangelical Ministry Assembly in London from Wednesday to Friday this week. Please pray for us, that we would be refreshed with some great ministry and fellowship as the main speakers open up God's Word on the theme of 'Preaching from the Heart'.

The EMA is held at St Helen's church every year, right in the middle of the square mile in London, in the shadow of 'The Gherkin' and now also 'The Shard'. 1000 Pastors go and so the singing will be awesome!

This year, I will be tweeting  from the conference floor: sharing insights from the ministry and including (hopefully) some photos, so you can get a flavour of the event.

If you want to stay in touch, you will need to get yourself a twitter account by signing up HERE. It's free, doesn't take long, and most mobile phones can now be set up to receive them in real time. When you've signed up search for @richard_lacey, which is my twitter identity. You then need to 'follow' me to receive my tweets.

Failing that: check back on this blog's home page from time to time as the most recent tweets will appear on a box on the right hand side.

Should Christians Avoid Tax?

It was Benjamin Franklin who uttered the now famous saying:
'In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes'

However as this weeks headlines have revealed, even taxes can be dodged if you employ a good accountant and are prepared to do some creative thinking!

Comedian Jimmy Carr's willingness to exploit a tax loophole has opened a whole can of worms. After being branded as 'morally wrong' by the Prime Minister earlier this week, he wrote in a twitter post yesterday morning: ‘I now realise I’ve made a terrible error of judgement’. He has now apparently put his house in order.

What should a Christian's response be to taxes and tax-avoidance?

Neil Powell of City Church in Birmingham posted a great short article on his blog yesterday about whether a Christian should avoid paying tax. Interestingly, his conclusion is that the answer not as simple  as we might at first think: that the answer is both 'yes' and 'no'.

See what you think...
